Children's health in Kilmore

From fevers and ear infections to growth, development and immunisations, our GPs look after children of every age – and the parents who are worried about them.

A family GP who knows your child

Children get sick quickly and often get better just as quickly, but it is not always easy to tell which illness needs a doctor. A GP who has seen your child before knows what is normal for them, which makes those calls easier.

Our GPs see babies, school-aged children and teenagers for everyday illness, ongoing conditions such as asthma and eczema, and questions about growth, sleep, eating, behaviour and development. When a child needs a paediatrician or another specialist, your GP arranges the referral.

Children can see the dentist at the same clinic, too. Eligible children can be treated under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule – reception can check eligibility when you book.

Common reasons to book

  • Fever, coughs, colds and ear infections
  • Rashes, eczema and allergies
  • Asthma reviews and action plans
  • Childhood immunisations and catch-up vaccines
  • Concerns about growth, development, sleep or behaviour
  • Teenage health, including confidential appointments

What to expect

Tell us what you have noticed

You know your child best. Your GP asks what has been happening, for how long, and how your child is eating, drinking and sleeping.

A gentle examination

Your GP examines your child as needed – often on a parent’s lap for younger children – and explains what they are looking for.

A clear plan

You leave knowing what is likely going on, what to do at home, and the signs that mean you should come back or seek urgent care.

Immunisations kept on track

Your GP can check your child’s immunisation history against the National Immunisation Program schedule and arrange any vaccines that are due.

Seek urgent care straight away if your child

  • Is having trouble breathing
  • Is unusually drowsy, floppy or hard to wake
  • Has a rash that does not fade when you press on it
  • Is not drinking, or has far fewer wet nappies than usual
  • Is a baby under three months old with a fever

Before your appointment

Bring your child’s Medicare details, their immunisation history and any medicines they take. For babies, bring their child health record book. If more than one child needs to be seen, or you have several concerns, ask reception for a longer appointment. GP appointments for children are bulk billed with a Medicare card.

All Care Medical and Dental Centre is at 3 Powlett St, Kilmore VIC 3764, with fully bulk-billed GP care and a dentist at the same clinic. We welcome new patients from Kilmore, Kilmore East, Wallan, Broadford, Wandong, Heathcote Junction, Lancefield, Romsey, Pyalong, Beveridge and Willowmavin. Book online or call +61 3 9115 2979.

Yes. Our GPs see babies from birth, including the six-week check for mother and baby.

Can teenagers see a GP on their own?

Can my child see the dentist here too?

Can my child have their immunisations here?

Yes. Your GP can give the vaccines on the National Immunisation Program schedule and help with catch-up vaccines if any have been missed. Bring your child’s immunisation history to the appointment.

What should I do after hours?

In an emergency, call 000. When the clinic is closed, Kilmore District Hospital’s Urgent Care Centre is open 24 hours for urgent care.
