Men's health in Kilmore

Men see a GP less often than women, later than they should, and usually because something has already gone wrong. A straightforward appointment is a good way to change that.

The short version, without the lecture

The conditions that affect men most – heart disease, type 2 diabetes, prostate problems, sleep apnoea, depression – all have long silent phases. They are also all far more manageable when found early, which is the entire argument for coming in before there is a problem.

An appointment does not have to be a full inventory of your life. Bring one thing. Blood pressure, a mole, snoring, the fact that you are tired all the time, or that you have not felt like yourself for months. Your GP can work outwards from there.

No lecture, no judgement about how long it has been. Just a look at where you are and what is worth doing about it.

Who this is for

  • Men who have not seen a GP in several years
  • Anyone over 40 wanting to know their heart and diabetes risk
  • Men with prostate or urinary symptoms, or a family history
  • Shift workers, tradies and drivers with sleep or fatigue problems
  • Anyone whose mood, drinking or stress has crept up on them
  • Men needing a work, licence or insurance medical

What we can help with

Heart and metabolic risk

Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and waist measurement, combined into an actual risk figure rather than a vague sense that you should probably do something.

Prostate and urinary health

Difficulty starting, going frequently, getting up at night, or a family history of prostate cancer. Your GP will explain what PSA testing can and cannot tell you before you decide whether to have it.

Sleep, fatigue and snoring

Persistent tiredness has a long list of treatable causes – sleep apnoea, low iron, thyroid problems, depression, alcohol. Worth sorting out rather than accepting.

Mental health

Low mood, anxiety, anger, and drinking that has gradually increased. A GP mental health treatment plan gives access to Medicare rebates for psychology sessions.

Book an appointment if

  • You cannot remember your last check-up
  • Something has changed and you have been ignoring it
  • Your father or brother had heart disease or prostate cancer early
  • You are tired all the time, or your partner says you stop breathing at night
  • You need a medical for work, a licence or insurance

Before your appointment

Book a longer appointment if it has been years, or if you have more than one thing on the list – it is worth doing properly in one visit. Bring the names of any medications, and anything you know about what runs in your family. If you want blood tests done the same day, ask reception whether you need to fast.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a check-up if I feel fine?

Feeling fine is compatible with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and early diabetes – none of which produce symptoms until later. That is precisely why checks exist.

Should I have a PSA test?

It depends on your age, family history and what you want to do with the result. PSA testing has real benefits and real downsides, and your GP will go through both so the decision is genuinely yours.

Can I get a work or licence medical here?

Ask reception which types of medical the clinic provides and what to bring. Some require specific forms or accreditation, so it is worth checking before you book.

Is All Care accepting new patients?

Yes. New patients are welcome from Kilmore and the surrounding towns. Allow a longer first appointment so your GP can take a proper history.
