Pathology and blood tests in Kilmore
Blood tests are a routine part of general practice – confirming a diagnosis, checking a medication is doing its job, or screening before anything has gone wrong. Pathology for our patients is provided by Clinical Labs.
Tests with a reason attached
A good pathology request is a short one. Your GP should be able to tell you what each test is looking for and what would change depending on the answer.
That matters, because broad unfocused testing produces incidental findings – mildly abnormal numbers of no consequence that lead to more tests and more worry. Targeted testing answers the question you came in with.
The other half is what happens to the result. Every result is reviewed by a GP here. You will be contacted if something needs discussing or acting on, and results are explained at an appointment rather than left as numbers on a portal for you to interpret alone.

How it works
At your appointment
Your GP explains which tests are being requested and why, and issues a pathology request form. Ask if anything is unclear – it is your result, and understanding the question makes the answer far more useful.
Having the test
Pathology for our patients is provided by Clinical Labs. Reception will tell you where to go for collection and what the hours are when your request form is issued, so you are not working it out afterwards.
Common tests
Full blood count, iron studies, cholesterol, blood sugar and HbA1c, kidney and liver function, thyroid function, vitamin D, coeliac screening, and the monitoring tests that accompany particular medications.
Getting your results
Every result is reviewed by a GP. The clinic contacts you if something needs attention, and results are discussed at a follow-up appointment so you know what they mean and what happens next.

- You are due for routine monitoring of a condition or medication
- You have symptoms that have not been investigated

Before your appointment
Some tests need fasting, usually eight to twelve hours, and many do not – your GP or reception will tell you when the form is issued. Take your usual medications unless told otherwise. Bring your request form and Medicare card, and drink water beforehand, which makes collection easier.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to fast before a blood test?
Some tests need fasting, commonly cholesterol and glucose. Many do not. You will be told when the form is issued, so ask if it is not clear.
How long do results take?
Most routine blood tests come back within one to three working days. Some specialised tests take longer, and your GP will say so at the time.
Do I need an appointment to get my results?
For anything other than a straightforward normal result, yes – so your GP can explain what it means and what happens next. Booking the follow-up when you have the test done saves waiting.
